The Classical Jazz Paradigm


Summary of the Daily Conference Schedule:

DAY 1: Thursday, June 22, 2023

Day one of the conference will feature an opening 5:00pm dinner session with entertainment and a keynote address on the “The Classical - Jazz Paradigm” by the founder of New York Voices, Mr. Darmon Meader.

DAY 2: Friday, June 23, 2023

Day two is the first full day of the conference, and will be packed with numerous sessions with New York Voices, James Wigginton, and other featured guest artists. Some of the session titles will be:

  • Rhythm and the Art of the Phrase: Classical Realization to Lyrical Jazz Improvisation
  • Jazz Improvisation Masterclass
  • Integrating a Microphone Into Your Performance
  • Speech to Recitative to Jazz
  • Learning from Listening: the Great Jazz Singers
  • The Multi-Faceted Vocal Tract: Using the Articulators and Resonance Cavities to Sing in Any Style

The New York Voices - Live in Concert
   June 23, 2022 7:30pm | Auer Performance Hall

Day two will then wrap up with a Major Concert Event by New York Voices at 7:30pm in Auer Performance Hall (included in your registration). We will be thrilled to enjoy this GRAMMY award-winning group that will display their expertise of over 30 years of performing and recording together. It promises to be a night to remember.

DAY 3: Saturday, June 24, 2023

Day three, the final day of the conference, will be filled from beginning to end with something for everyone.

A special part of this day will then feature the members of the New York Voices conducting jazz masterclasses with five different Indiana Show Choirs. Attendees are welcome to attend to glean all they desire from their work with these groups!

If you desire something a bit different, however, simultaneous with those masterclasses, attendees can enjoy other sessions such as:

  • Discovering Your Ensemble's Unique Jazz Sound
  • Singing with a Jazz Combo
  • Get Your Vocal Sexy On

Conference Festival Performance - “Splashes of Color: A Jazz Celebration”
   June, 24, 2022 5:00pm | Auer Performance Hall

Featuring the combined talents of the Heartland Sings Vocal Artists, area show choirs, and the New York Voices - all singing with the sounds of a Big Band - this concert will be an inspirational and exciting way to finish off our 2.5 days together!
