A Vocal Arts Conference designed for YOU!

  • A three-day gathering for the inspiration and on-going education of aspiring and professional vocalists, choral directors, vocal music educators, and singing enthusiasts.

  • Featuring the renowned Dr. George Shirley, the first African-American to sing lead roles at the Metropolitan Opera, a renowned pedagogue, and National Medal of Arts recipient.

  • Also featuring Ms. Karen Brunssen, the Chair of Music Performance of the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, and the Past-President of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

  • And, in a preview of our 2023 Vocal Arts Conference, our third guest artist is distinguished vocalist, arranger, and saxophonist, Mr. Darmon Meader. An artist who has achieved rapid international recognition as the founder and musical director of the Grammy Award winning vocal ensemble, New York Voices, Mr. Meader is renowned for his excellence in jazz and the art of group singing.

  • Interactive and informative sessions, workshops, and masterclasses by professional teachers, musicians, and health professionals - designed specifically for all vocalists.

  • Rehearsals and conference performances of the opera THE THREE HERMITS by Stephen Paulus, and the choral work, LUX AETERNA by Morton Lauridsen - performed by all singers.

This performance is presented in conjunction with Heartland Sings annual Vocal Arts Conference. This year’s theme is “Singing for Life” and culminates with the performance of two great works. Stephen Paulus’ opera, THE THREE HERMITS, tells the time-honored story by Leo Tolstoy which teaches us about inclusiveness and how God’s love is extended to all humanity. Morton Lauridsen’s exquisite choral work LUX AETERNA (which means “Light Eternal”) will be our tribute to those who have been lost to the pandemic. Duration: 90 minutes plus intermission
