#ThirtyOneinThirtyOne - Tim's Story

#ThirtyOneinThirtyOne - Tim's Story

“Some days there won’t be a song in your heart.

Sing anyway.” - Emory Austin

Each one of us carries burdens we hide from all but a chosen few. There have been times, when getting into my car or taking my place in a rehearsal or performance, that the song has not “been in my heart.” But I turn on a favorite CD or the first notes of a beautiful anthem begin and I find myself transported out of my own life challenges to a place of release, peace, and calm. Long after the rehearsal or concert is finished the effects of the song, born of God, remain as a balm that soothes the rough edges of life.

God has given us the song. Song has the unique gift of taking me out of myself and to a place where the cares and burdens of everyday life are forgotten. Song immediately transforms and opens me to the joy and gratitude of life. I am able to connect with my family, friends, patients, and strangers with empathy, love, caring, and understanding. On the days the song isn’t in my heart; the very act of singing brings the song back.  And when the song touches me, I can, in turn, share the song with others. Singing the song is where I am most fulfilled by the gift given to me.

- Tim Cunningham, Tenor Heartland Vocal Artist
