Heartland Sings Celebrates the Legacy of Maestro Robert Nance
FORT WAYNE – Heartland Sings is celebrating the legacy of longtime President and Founding Artistic Director Maestro Robert Nance during “A Choral Testament” for his 28 years of leadership of the nonprofit. The event will feature a grand choir consisting of community singers, alumni, and students of Heartland Sings. “A Choral Testament” will take place June 8th at 4 p.m. in the Auer Performance Hall.
Heartland Sings is a local nonprofit organization that creates diverse programs and productions, including small ensemble performances, opera and musical theater programs, educational and community outreach events, and large-scale choral-orchestral productions. Recently, Nance announced that this would be his final year of service in his current role. Beginning in the 2025-2026 concert season, Nance will become the organization's Founder and Artistic Director Emeritus.
“This event is a tribute to all the musicians and singers who have been part of Heartland Sings over the years,” said Nance. “It’s been an honor to serve as President and Founding Artistic Director, and I am so grateful to all who have supported and participated in this incredible journey. I’m looking forward to celebrating the legacy of Heartland Sings and its continued impact on Fort Wayne’s music scene.”
The performance will feature a variety of choral pieces, highlighting the work that Heartland Sings has commonly been known for under Maestro Nance's leadership. The chorus will include Heartland Sings alumni who have spent time with the organization and gained musical knowledge from Nance and his team.
“A Choral Testament” marks a milestone for Heartland Sings, bringing together a legacy of passionate musicians in a final concert under Nance’s direction. The event is part of a larger year-long celebration of Heartland Sings’ 28th season, which will culminate in this momentous tribute.
