Summertime, and the giving is easy

Maestro Robert Nance and Laura Burger are smiling because they appreciate our family of donors.

In June, we called for Summer Superstars to help with funding our educational programs at Gigi’s Playhouse and Turnstone. Many thanks to those of you who answered the call, allowing us to exceed our $5,000 goal with $5,440 in donations!

Currently, we are in the midst of our Maestro Donor Campaign, which has a much loftier goal of $25,000. If you are, or ever were, a Heartland Sings donor, you should have received a letter recently from Robert Nance. It reads, in part:

As we begin our new fiscal year, I want to ask you to make a special gift for the 28th season because it will be my last as the President and Founding Artistic Director. Starting in the fall of 2025, I will become the Founder & Artistic Director Emeritus. The role of President will pass to current Vice President Eric Miller and the role of Artistic Director will pass to current Associate Director, Natalie Young. While it has been the honor of my life to guide and establish this vocal arts institution, I am excited for the future and look forward to continuing with Heartland Sings in my new supporting role.

There you have it, folks. It will take a concerted effort to reach this goal by August 15, but we know our donors can do it. You have always risen to the occasion and demonstrated your commitment to our mission and programs. Also, your gifts help Heartland Sings provide many talented vocal artists and teaching artists with sustainable livelihoods and they, in turn, make Fort Wayne a culturally rich place to live!

Therefore, we challenge you to donate now if Maestro Nance has ever…

  • Given you voice or piano lessons

  • Conducted you with his baton

  • Composed a piece for you to perform or enjoy

  • Entertained at your special occasion

  • Accompanied your vocal or instrumental performance

  • Collaborated with you musically

  • Supported your creative endeavors

  • Advocated for you as a performing artist

  • Offered you work as a musician

  • Provided you with a rich cultural experience

  • Brought the music to you

  • Played you a tune while you sipped a cocktail at The Bradley Hotel

  • Made you laugh

  • Inspired you

  • Been your colleague, teacher, mentor, advocate, employer, collaborator, conductor…friend
